Great Akiba Rubinstein (1880-1961) was born today 142 years ago. Probably the greatest of non-champions. Author of numerous opening concepts and endgame discoveries, he somewhat lacked an iron will and sportive qualities, but his name will be remembered as long as chess exists. pic.twitter.com/hQfrPTKfFp

The striving to play deeply in the opening, and the so-called “long plan”, that is when a game’s played from the beginning to the end in one key… That’s what I like in chess, and it comes from Akiba Rubinstein.
